LEARNING OUTCOMES
Teatree Tells: A Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Kit has been designed to teach early childhood educators how to address the
sensitive subject of child sexual abuse with families and children. We encourage you to spend some time familiarizing yourself with the material.
You should be prepared and confident when teaching children about personal safety strategies to reduce the possibility of them being sexually abused.
Learning outcomes include:
- To be able to identify a Safe Adult – helping children identify the adults in their lives they can talk to in the event they are harmed.
- To be able to identify and label feelings – promoting awareness of emotions and explaining how to recognize and express feelings in one’s self and others.
- To be able to name body parts – increasing the likelihood that a child is understood if s/he discloses sexual abuse to an adult.
- To understand that secrets about touching are Not Okay – promoting disclosure by teaching children what type of touching is Okay and Not Okay.
- To understand that secrets about pictures are Not Okay – addressing the connection between child pornography and sexual abuse by promoting the disclosure of secretive picture taking.
- To be able to use assertiveness skills – teaching children that it is okay to say “No” to someone that makes them feel confused or uncomfortable.
